Shasta Lake is fishing well considering we are transitioning into our fall fishing patterns.  Cooling water temps, continued lake level drops, and windy conditions generally present some challenges this time of the year.  Fortunately there is an abundant amount of new Shad in the lake which has continued the bait bite all summer long.  Another recent batch of Shad has appeared and it looks to be a bumper crop once again.  This makes small Shad imitation baits a great option this year.  I've been using the Pautzke Fire Minnows with a lot of success the past few weeks but anything small seems to get some attention when the bite is on.  The best bite for us continues to be in the 100' plus range but we are sampling the top layers of the lake now with some success as well.  Surface temps will drop into the 60's by the end of this week I'm sure and that will invite more and more trout to the surface.  The King salmon bite remains strong as well but its an early bite and the Kings are deep!  Not much to report on the brown trout fishing but with all the browns plump with eggs the past few weeks I'm sure many of them are headed for the spawning grounds.  I seem to find some good brown trout fishing to start up again in mid November, although theres always a chance a nice brown on Shasta lake any day you fish.  Its shaping up to be another great fall/winter season on Shasta Lake!  Stay tuned for more reports in Early November when lake conditions have stabilized a bit.  Thank you!
