The Trinity River is currently running low and clear but that will likely change this weekend. There are currently steelhead spread throughout the system but some much needed rain this weekend will get them moving up river towards their spawning tributaries and the Trinity River salmon/steelhead hatchery in Lewiston. Its the beginning of the season and the steelhead fishing should continue to improve from now through February. Captain Justin Thompson has started his winter trips and although the low, clear conditions have persisted this week he's still finding steelhead daily. I think we're headed for another great steelhead season this year into next, especially if we continue to see some much needed rainfall the next few months. Captain Justin is booked through December now but has several prime dates in January and February before his season ends in March. This is one of my favorite places to fish for steelhead in California, and although I don't guide on the Trinity, I surely do enjoy spending time fishing there when I can. If you haven't fished the Trinity River, I highly recommend it. Captain Justin Thompson is a great guide on the Trinity River and gets his clients into some great steelhead action year after year. Give Jaynie a call at (530) 510-2925 to get more information and available dates for Trinity River steelhead this winter season!
