The Upper Kern trout bite is fair, and there are no trout plants scheduled. The flows are fluctuating a bit from 100 CFS to 400 CFS due to the recent thunderstorms. Trout can be found with salmon eggs, crickets, and spinners in the deeper holes. In the Lower Kern the Smallmouth Bass bite has been very good and consistent. Double Tail grubs on finesse jig heads and Roostertails have been on fire for Smallmouth Bass in the Lower Kern. Small Catfish are coming on many of the same offerings as the Smallmouth. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River at Kernville was flowing at 320 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 339 CFS.
