This week the Upper Kern River was stocked throughout the 20-mile stretch. The DFWL have a scheduled plant for the Upper Kern every week during the month of December. The river flows have been fluctuating with the storms passing through, and the cold flows are keeping the planted trout in deeper pools. Anywhere there is easy access on the river would be a good section to fish. Anglers are scoring fish with salmon eggs, crickets, and mice tails. Fly tossers have had success with nymphing in the afternoons. The Upper Kern River was stocked this week in the following sections: Section 4, Powerhouse #3 to Riverside Park in Kernville; Section 5, Fairview Dam to Lazy River Lodge; Section 6, Fairview Dam to Johnsondale Bridge. The Lower Kern Largemouth and smallmouth bass bite is fair. Get bent baits and other soft plastics fished in the slower water and around eddies are finding a few takers. At the time of reporting the Upper Kern River was flowing at 161 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 195 CFS.
