The air quality is starting to improve a bit up here and making it more fishable. The 20-mile stretch of the Upper Kern has seen very little pressure over the last couple weeks due to the Windy Fire. Fly anglers are having success with dry-dropper rigs with a Yellow Sallie nymph on the bottom. In the Lower Kern, Bass have been coming on a variety of offerings. Small Bass have been coming on small jigs, grubs, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics. Catfish can be caught with Triple S Dip Baits, clams, and worms. Bluegill have been coming on live worms. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River at Kernville was flowing at 108 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 104 CFS.
