We're fishing Shasta most days of the week right now and we're seeing some really consistent fishing between the dam and the I-5 bridge. Lots of trout and salmon just about everywhere we're fishing on the lower lake. We're starting to see more fish hanging out in the 30-40' foot range with some King salmon much deeper. There are small Shad and small bluegill showing in the stomachs of the trout so they are now keying in on small baitfish. Match the hatch with smaller spoons from 1"-2" long. Running small dodgers in front of the spoons is a good option now as well. I'm trolling 2.2-2.5 mph for the trout and it seems to be a productive speed right now. We're catching Kokanee in the same areas we're seeing trout and they will hit a brightly colored spoon trolled at 2.5 mph. Otherwise, troll with traditional Kokanee gear and target the 30-40' foot range at 1.5 mph. The lower lake is producing Kokanee, but Hirz Bay seems to be a hot spot for sure. With afternoon surface temps running around 78 degrees, we'll see these trout and salmon moving deeper with the cold water. The hot bites start now so if you've put off booking a Shasta Lake fishing trip, now is the time! Thank you,,,,
