Oroville resident Tom Levulett started the week off strong with a 5 lb. 8 oz. Rainbow. Tom trolled a Fire Tiger #5 Rapala near the dam. The same day, Jim Kirby landed a 5 lb. 8 oz. off the beach on a Kastmaster. Sharon Beatty used a Rapala near the dam and netted a 3 pounder. Aaron, Johnnie, & Falon took home a huge stringer of trout (10 total) which they caught by the bridge on Kastmasters. This is the first I've heard that the water clarity has improved at the bridge. Depending on how much rain we get in the next few days that could change again so don't hold me to it just yet. Bob from Roseville scored a nice big 6 lb. 8 oz. Rainbow off the beach using chartreuse Powerbait. Kastmasters worked for Matt Grove too! He caught a chunky 6 lb. 3 oz. Rainbow from the shore in the main campground. Stanley Odell of Oregon House took hom a 5 lb. 14 oz. trout for supper which he caught on PB off the beach. EK. Briesemeister caught a 6 pounder just south of the boat ramp. Congrats to Shane Pack of Loma Rica with one of the biggest trout caught this week, a 7 lb. 4oz. off the bank of rainbow PB. Same to Dave & Sharon Critchfield who also landed a 7lb. 4 oz. Rainbow trolling with a Rapala. Big thanks to Justin of Gridley for sharing his 9 Pound Catfish for a photo, he caught it on frozen bait.
Bass fisherman Chris Holsey found not only Bass but LOTS of Crappie and his stringer was full. Chris Was using jigs in about 5 feet of water on the east bank. Taylor caught her 1st Bass by the island on a worm. Richard of Jackson hooked a 1 lb. 8 oz. Crappie. Some of the Crappie that were cleaned here had eggs in them which is a sure sign that they are spawning. The surface temp rose to 65 degrees last week and created an ideal environment for their spawn. Juan Gomez also hooked a Bass in the main campground using Nightcrawlers.
Fishing action at Collins Lake is here to stay thanks to the consistent fish plants from here on out. One to two weekly Trophy plants are arriving on schedule as well as a F & G plant every other week. Our trout raising program is going quite well and they are getting BIG. Those trout will be released around the first week in May. The volume of raised trout equals about 12 trophy plants. That's a lot of fish! After those fish are released we will only have a few more plants then were done for the year. We have to stop planting at the end of May because the water temperature is too warm for the fish's survival.

Collins LakeThe second week of March exploded with not only HUGE trout being caught as you can well see, but the Bass are active and very aggressive too.
