Fishing Report for Lake Del Valle
(Week of: 10/31/2020 – 11/6/2020)
Staff: Jack Forzano

Fishing at Lake Del Valle has been pretty good this past week. Once again Catfish, Striper and Trout are being caught. Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass have been caught as well.

Weather: The weather is starting to cool off. During the day as well.

Temperature of lake: 59 Degrees F.

Hot spots: Holding at the Lowers Narrows, and the Dam.

Favorite lures for Bass: Swimbaits, Flicker Shad, Bass Jigs, and Kastmasters.
Striped Bass- Anchovies
Catfish- Anchovies.
Trout- Worms, Chartreuse Garlic Power Bait, and Rainbow Power Bait.
Fish Plants: No Trout Plants to report for this week.

Once again here is a report from our very own Dr. Al Hurwitz:
Well, all good fishing runs come to an end! Al Hurwitz of Saratoga and Abbey Lev of Sunnyvale trolled the lake hard on November 5, 2020. After 4 previous consecutive weeks of successful Bass and Panfish outings, today’s fishing jaunt was unsuccessful. Abbey caught one nice 1-1.5 lb. Smallmouth Bass off a point in the flats of Heron Bay, and this after only 20 minutes of initial trolling. After that, nothing hit our lines! The fish appeared to be very scattered throughout the lake as viewed on our sonar unit. We were trolling our favorite Panther Martin Spinners in all sections of the upper and lower lake, but we had only that one hit resulting in the one fish! We were trolling some 10-15 feet below the surface in 20-foot water columns and applied scent to the lures. The water clarity was excellent, and the surface water temperature was around 65 degrees. Some of the Striped Bass fishermen, however, had success with casting or still fishing. One possible explanation for the poor bite may have been an approaching low-pressure cold wave which is supposed to hit the area tomorrow. In general, successful trolling requires actively feeding fish, and that was definitely not the case today. We’ll be back very soon to get revenge! Trout fishing should pick up as the water cools. As usual, the Del Valle staff was very helpful in getting us set up for the day’s fishing. See you soon.
All the best, Dr. Al Hurwitz
