Captain Wise of Headhunter Sportsfishing was on Melones fishing near the dam bring in a limit of Kokanee. Kyle reported the Kokanee are out in the 75 ft. d. range and are not in abundance but a guy can still go out and land a limit with some effort and the right color combos.

BASS

The bass bite on Melones continues to be good thru early morning with a top water bite going on using different crankbaits, chatterbaits, ripbaits. Jigs and plastic baits also producing some good action as the morning sun warms up the surface temps. Whopper Ploppers, with good top water action disturbing the surface seem to be something bass just have to go after. Made by River2Sea, Whopper Ploppers come in 3 sizes, 75, 90, 110. Timmy L. was cranking on Melones 7/6 landing this 8 lb. 10 oz. slab of pure adrenaline.

CRAPPIE

Nice slabs have been reported in different areas of the lake using live minnows, Crappie jigs and Gulp Crappie Nibbles. Anglers fishing Angels Cove area have done well, landing a dozen or more, dropping a night light and fishing in the swarm of shad that are attracted to the light.

CATFISH

Elmo Bauer, a previous winner of Glory Hole Sports Catfish Contest did an over nighter fishing near the marina and came up with two nice catfish, a 7.4, and 5.3 lbs.
