Whiskeytown Lake took its lumps last summer, but the Kokanee bite rages on even after the fires have burnt out.  The landscape is greening up quickly, Ospreys and Eagles are flying overhead, and the Kokanee are as healthy as I've ever seen them.  Its truly a magical place to fish even in the aftermath of the devestating Carr Fire.  The Kokanee are spread out throughout the lake and all the usual haunts are producing good numbers of Kokanee salmon.  Word has it that the Kokanee bite is in the 40-50' foot depth range and just about everything as far as kokanee dodger combo's is working right now.  Whiskeytown Lake guides Anthony Cox (AC Guide Service) and Alex Ross (The Trinity Guide) are absolutely putting on a clinic right now.  I highly recommend giving them a call to book your Kokanee fishing trip this July and August.  Its already shaping up to be the best season in a few years, but the bonus is really big Kokanee.  Its just a matter of time before someone scales a 19"-20" Kokanee this year.  Hiring one of the aforementioned guides will ensure a productive day on the water this season.  This is a great family trip, employee fishing trip, or just a group of friends getting together to have some laughs and to experience some really good fishing.  Fyi there's road construction on 299 and short delays should be considered when heading to the lake.  Apparently in July, 299 will have 24 hour road construction in progress.  Thank you!
