The lake temperature here at Del Valle has been in the lower 60s in the morning and then heating up quite nicely in the evenings making the early mornings a key time to be here if you are interested in trout. Many of our trout have been caught on either bait or shad imitations. The spring green power boat has been the most popular to use. Also, large nightcrawlers and inflating them works really great for the trout. If you prefer to use lures small to medium sized Kastmasters and spoons are what the trout are interest in. Most of our species are keyed in on the shad, smaller jerk baits can also be effective many of out trout are being caught in the coves, the run along heron bay or if you are fishing from shore, the east beach swim area is another great place to hook into trout. I recommend coming out soon, trout season is nearly over! The you will have to fish very deep water for any trout action.

The small and largemouth bass have been biting really well out here. With many of our anglers using topwater lures early morning and worm imitation later in the day, most of the bass can be found around the tulle patches that dot the lake they love the extra shade and structure. They get by nesting in these reed patched or along the rock point that just sharply along the points on the lake. As the water heats up you are going to want to go for shad imitations because the warmer water will make the shad spawn move a lot more.

The striped bass fishing is finally coming back to life as the temperature heats up as well the striped bass boils will be coming very soon, although for now the main way to hook into a striped bass is using anchovies or sardines and casting these out on the points that are along shore. Try fanning your bait out or targeting a channel of water.

The catfish bite out here is also running strong. Most of out cats are caught fishing your bait but the fallen trees or logs that you see int he water. The catfish love to have any sore of hiding hole for themselves to feel protected, because lake Del Valle is a man made lake the structure that you see along the shoreline is a vital to patterning the fish out here

The cold front that moved in this last week caused a slight drop in average lake temperature but be ready for the fish to come back alive once the water temp returns to high 60s low 70s. The striped bass are still the main fish you are going to want to target out here having gear that can map the lake below you is a huge advantage because for now these stripers are still running sub surface chasing the scattered shad......
