Shasta Lake is 15' from full pool, the water color is great, and the surface temps are coming up slowly! It seems like the winter of 2018-2019 lasted forever, but we're breaking out the sunscreen and preparing for another hot season on the lake. The fishing has been hit and miss, but we're catching a few big fish every day or at least getting chances to. Yesterday we had three heartbreakers peeling line only to come off a few seconds later. Our big score for the day was a beautiful 6 lb brown caught with an Optimizer spoon coated in Mikes UV Gel Scent. The brown was caught off the downrigger rod staraight out the back of the boat and down 6' feet. We caught some rainbows at 12' yesterday afternoon so dont be afraid to start testing the deeper bite throughout the day. By the time we hit the mid 60's on Shasta, we should be down at 20-30' looking for our bites. I'm still running long setbacks until I'm hooking fish in the 30-40' range then I'll shorten my setbacks up a bit. Metallic spoons with bright colors are getting most of the attention on my boat for sure!
