The Lake Temperature here at Del Valle is slowly rising. I mostly clock it in the mornings at the upper 50s. Many of out old timers have described the last as “fuller than it’s been in years”. The trout bite has been off the hook with many of our anglers using Powerbait or mini nightcrawler. The corn Yellow Powerbait is the favored Powerbait color to use. Lure wise many of out trollers have good luck using smaller rapalas, if you are casting, I personally like the 1/8 sized Kastmaster or even smaller light tackle is doing the best for the trout here. Many of the trout are being caught on the sandy beaches along the narrows, lots of anglers recommend fishing out in the swallow Bay Area as well for the trout, from shore the east beach area is the new favorite spot nightcrawler or mice tails are recommended as well chanteuse colored micetail are the more reliable one for getting a trout on the line.

The small and largemouth bass are getting into their pre spawn feed so the bite is really hot many of our fishermen are fishing for the bass along the weed mats nightcrawler with one little split shot or no weight are a good bit to use, alternatively many anglers also recommend the deep diving crank baits the trout have eve been hitting on these while people are bass fishing. Drop shooting a senko on the rock points along the lake is also a good idea the sallies especially are biting quite aggressive right now!

The catfish have been slow to bite but they are out here they are mostly hanging out in the tulle patches chasing the carp that are spawning right now. Ig you see a carp roll it is probably a good place to catfish. The catfish out here mainly bite on anchovies or mackerel many of the fallen trees in the water are also hidden catfish nests getting you r bait as close to the fallen tree as possible without catching a snag don’t waste too much time if the catfish don’t bite within 45 minutes start looking for another spot to soak your bait.

The striped bass are slow out of the gate but they are still out here trolling larger swimbaits can be a good way to attract the attention of the stripers. There isn’t too icy knowledge on where they might be right now but my best bet is around the marina area because the baitfish in out lake are still on the bottom and the striped bass love to chase the trout that come off the plat trucks. Bait wise the striped bass love the anchovies and when they hit a bait rod they usually are quick to let go so be paying attention if you are bait fishing for stripers!
