Yesterday we fished Shasta Lake and boy did we get wet! My clients had the luxury of a full top and a warm heater in the boat, but boy did I get soaked. The rain was relentless and the winds were just about at the limits of safely being able to do some trolling for trout. Being the only boat on the water was nice, but we didnt stray too far from Packers Bay were we put in. We gave it our best but only hooked four fish in about 4.5 hrs. We probably shouldnt have gone out in those conditions, but my crew made the call to go for it! The water was in great shape color wise, and there was minimal debris in the area we fished. Shasta is just 28' feet from full and its prime for the good fish to be on the hunt for some big bites! I honestly thought the bite would be good, but I guess the storm was a bit much for the trout and the bite was slow afterall, especially for the browns in 48 degree water. All our fish came on the surface at 2.5 ish mph (because of the winds) and our spoons saw all the action. It was so wet, taking pics just wasnt an option so you'll have to wait for the next report to see a sample of our catch for the day. I'm fishing nearly every day for the next month so we should see some good fish tipping the scales here very shortly. I'm sticking with my Bay Rat and spoon regime and will continue to hunt the big boys!! Stay tuned for
