Big Kokanee bite at Whiskeytown!

Mixed reports from other sources are saying Whiskeytown Lake fishing is slow. I'm here to tell you that it just isn't so. We had limits by 8:30 today and that was after losing several Kokanee in the process. Surface temps started at 79 degrees in the Whiskey Creek arm, but we fund some cooler water down at the cold water curtain where some good schools of Kokanee were holding. The kokanee are holding at 55'-60' feet in the cooler water just about everywhere in the lake so finding them shouldnt be hard. I had to keep fresh offerings going all morning, but it paid off until we had our 15 fish. You can't simply troll the same baits around all day and expect to get bites. The inflow and out flows at Whiskeytown are slowing down so I'm hoping to see stable fishing conditions ahead. This is one of the best years for big Kokanee salmon on Whiskeytown lake in a long time so if you've ever wanted to try this fishery, now is the time. I still have dates available through September.
