The flows are dropping on the Sacramento River from Redding, California downriver through Colusa, California. The traditional March white sturgeon fishing bite is in full stride. With all of the high flows, the Sacramento River has some brand new changes with many new islands and submerged trees for boaters to navigate through. The Sacramento River does still have many large trees coming down with the higher flows so anglers should use extreme caution while on the river. The Sacramento River is scheduled to drop significantly through the weekend. Currently flows are muddy and over 56 feet and should drop to around 51.5 feet by the weekend. Sturgeon are in many of the sturgeon holding holes from Butte City, California downriver through Knights Landing California. Anchor fishing with various cut baits are working for keeper sized white sturgeon. Pictured is one of the first keeper 50 inch white sturgeon brought in this week for Ryan Tripp from Oroville, California while out with guide Mike Rasmussen near Colusa California. The duo had several other opportunities and the number of sturgeon in the Sacramento River looks very good. The time is now to target these fish before the rush of boats hit the Sacramento River in late March and early April to chase the spring striper run. Both guide Dave Jacobs of Professional Guide Service and guide Mike Rassmussen of salmonsacriver Guide Service are available for the Sacramento River sturgeon run in March and the Sacramento River striper run in April and May.
