Smith River steelhead fishing guide reports low clear steelhead fishing conditions on the Smith River near Crescent City California. As you can see from today's photo, the Smith River's emerald green color is what anglers can expect to encounter until the rains return Friday. This seasons Northern California steelhead fishing has been going well with plenty of great fishing days on many Northern California and Southern Oregon steelhead fishing rivers. Rivers like the Smith, Trinity and Chetco just to name a few. After heavy rains in the latter part of January, all three rivers received their fair share of rain and high runoff. The Smith River being the first to come into fishable shape was fishing for the entire last week of January right into early February. The Smith River is now low and clear at 8.33 feet at the Jedediah Smith gauge. More rain is falling here now as of Thursday February 2cd and a considerable rise is coming Friday through Monday. Drift boating and bank fishing has been going well with some very large steelhead coming in this week. With the forecasted rises this weekend, plunking looks to be the go to option for those planning on steelhead fishing this weekend. The Trinity River West of Redding and the Chetco River near Brookings Oregon are both fishing now and too will be receiving their fair share of measurable rainfall this weekend.

Northern California steelhead fishing guide reports that anglers should always call ahead for current fishing conditions as they can change very quickly here on the North coast.
