Jim Schell and his son Cory were able to get in a Winter Steelhead trip on the Upper Klamath River before Mother Nature let loose her fury this past Wednesday. Despite the full Moon and constant weather changes throughout the day the guys were able to find a few biters on plugs. Cory picked up a nice 5/6 pounder while casting a Rapala and Jim caught his fish when we back trolled Crawdad plugs. Both plugs were bathed in Pro-Cure Gels. The bite was tough from the beginning and by the end of the day the wind was blowing hard making it difficult to fish and row. Currently, most of the Klamath River below Cottonwood Creek is unfishable do to muddy high water. The flow out of Irongate reservoir is down to 2100cfs after reaching nearly 4000cfs over the last 72 hours. Normally this time of year the flow hovers around 1000cfs so the Klamath below Irongate should be fishable as soon as the high winds die down. As for the rest of the Klamath it may be a while.
Standing on the Klamathon bridge watching the Klamath flow like chocolate milk on Saturday morning, flow out of Irongate reservoir at the time was 3350cfs
