This is the final week of steelhead season for our area, and as usual, the best fishing is happening now. Ernie Kinzli from Ernie's Casting Pond in Soquel says the water is still up in our local streams, and the color is good. Kinzli reports a few fish caught from Soquel creek last weekend and on Wednesday. He predicts "the water should be gorgeous by this weekend," and reminds us the season ends on Friday March 7. We are allowed to fish on March 7, as it is the final day of the season.

Ranger Judie Cole at Loch Lomond is gearing up for the lake's March 1 opener. Remember, all boats will be inspected before being allowed into Loch Lomond this year, in order to prevent the spread of invasive species. Boats and trailers must be clean, dry and must be at least five days from immersion in other lakes. If the day is rainy, no "outside" boats will be allowed in Loch Lomond, though their rental boat fleet will still be available.
