Big bass week on Shasta/Trinity Lakes

This week on local lakes was very productive for bass anglers in both Shasta and Trinity counties!  With the Unhooked Bass Anglers tournament on Saturday on Trinity Lake, the area saw a lot of bass fishermen hitting the lake early trying to find fish for the tournament.  Shasta Lake bass anglers have been finding success and with the lake at almost 90% of capacity, there seems to be a good fishing buzz going on and the fishermen are excited!  Trinity Lake is still waiting for its spring run off supply of water, but it is slowly on the rise, and the fishing has been good for anglers who find the fish.

The Unhooked Bass Anglers bass tournament on Trinity Lake was a successful event with 43 boats showing up to fish.  After a great day on the water, anglers Kyle Gray and Jason Catandsa of Redding came in with a four fish limit for the boat weighing in at 18.71 lbs  and took 1st place honors!  Water temps on Trinity were in the high 40's to low 50's making the bite a challenge for some.  For those who found a school of fish and worked them over and over, the results were quite favorable.  As we get closer to spring, I would expect Trinity to fish really well this year.

Shasta Lake is still on the rise and will likely continue to see an influx of water with the spring rains.  Water management officials released over 60,000 acre feet of water this last week from Shasta in an effort to maintain a level in the lake that allows for a buffer with the coming rains and subsequent snow melt in the coming months.  Fishing in Shasta Lake will continue to be very productive and will only improve as we edge into spring and early summer this year.

As far as bass fishing techniques go on Shasta and Trinity Lakes, most are working now.  I've been catching bass on swim baits, spider grubs, jigs, and reaction baits.  Focus your attention on the incoming water areas of both Shasta and Trinity Lakes and you should find the bass.

My new custom made bass baits company, (Shasta Bass Baits), is making custom baits for local waters, and is really taking off!  If you are looking for some baits that will catch our local bass, look no further than Shasta Bass Baits.  You can find us on Face Book and Instagram currently, or you can contact me personally to get your hands on some of our baits. Thats it for this week folks, I'll undoubtedly have another report for you next week with some more favorable weather in the forecast.
