One freaky storm passed through the canyon yesterday and all the surrounding areas. Wind, clouds, rain, thunder and lightening lit up the night sky. As beautiful as the storm may have been, it shut off the fish completely! Earlier this week fishermen annihilated the striped bass on Anchovies and other cut baits. Other anglers were catching fish on Jerkbaits like Lucky Crafts Pointers, Yo-Zuri Delta Minnows, and Mega Bass Jerks. They were also catching them on top water lures such as Cotton Cordell pencil poppers, XPS bass poppers and Heddon Zara super spooks. Any top water lure that can efficiently ‘’walk the dog’’ will call the stripped Bass to the surface; they will also attract the attention of Smallmouth Bass as well.
We have been hunting for Largemouths and Smallmouths Bass but they have been very illusive this year on our normal technique for this season. However small spinners like Panther Martins, Rooster Tails, and Joe Flies have been slamming Smallies in dipper water. The catfish are still biting cut baits in the shallows around structure.
Good Luck to everyone.
