New Lake Record spotted bass. Randy Pierson, picured above of Oakdale caught a massive 10-pound, 1-ounce lunker. He is fishing a tournament on Saturday, so he did not share what he caught this fish on, or where he caught it.
Melones has done it again!
The current state record and world record was caught May 3, 2001 out of Pine Flat Lake. It weighed 10-pounds, 4-ounces. If you catch a fish that is larger, and want it to be recognized as a state record, it must be weighed on a certified scale. The post office or the grocery store meat department has a certified scale.
What To Do If You Think You Have a World Record Fish:
If you catch a fish you think may be worthy of a record, The International Game Fish Association has set aside a few tips to ensure your record fish won't get away.
1. Don't delay! Get it weighed as soon as possible. There are a number of elements that ma cause your fish to lose valuable weight if you weight too long to weigh it.
2. Weigh your fish. If you want to release the fish, please call Glory Hole Sports while you are on the water. We will meet you at the Glory Hole boat ramp with our scale and a camera If it appears to be a world record fish, it will have to be weighed on a certified scale. This means a trip to the post office or grocery store. Because it is not legal to transport live fish, this means the fish will have to be dead. So please let us weigh it or weigh it yourself with an accurate scale before you make the choice.
3. Take lots of pictures. Photographs are the only way the IGFA judges can ensure your catch is real. Take numerous photos form every angle. Take pictures of the fish being weighed on the certified scale.
4. Line samples. IGFA judges require that you send at least 50 ft. of the line used to catch your fish for line class records.
5. Entry form. Once you have your pictures and line samples, fill out the official IGFA record form and send in your documents. Be sure you make copies of everything for your records. We have the form available at Glory Hole Sports.
