New Melones Lake level has been holding steady for the last 14 days and currently at 1057.50 ft., 30.5 ft. from full. Water temperature is in the range of 64 degrees. Water clarity is clear.
We like to promote catch and release on New Melones. If you do so, provide us a picture and bring it in for a copy or email it to us at gloryholesports@yahoo.com so we can put it on the board or in the newsletter.
Anglers FYI: For anyone with a potential lake record please call us at the store and hopefully we can send someone to weigh, photograph and measure the catch at the lake. GHS is the unofficial recorder of lake records for New Melones, and we understand there is sometimes conflicting interest in the welfare of the catch, whether or not to release the potential record, sacrificing your place as a record holder for the lake.
We do promote catch and release. For potential lake records, record the statistics of the fish... length, girth, weight and photographed at the lake before releasing her. If indeed we can verify the information that is provided, such as a witness, comparing the scale used with ours, a photograph with the fish hanging from the scale and can see the scale weight, etc...then we can accept this as proof. If your catch has expired than indeed bring it in to GHS so we can record it here, and you can have it mounted!
TROUT
Mid December, fingerling Rainbow Trout were placed in a trout pen and have been fed 7 days a week for the past few months. April 22 the trout were released from the pen average weight 2.5-3.5 lbs. Trout has been a slow bite, however weight wise the one's that we have heard of have been in the 3-7 lb range being caught on different lures. Trolling at the 49 bridge has produced strikes using Speedy Shiners nickle, nickle blue.
BASS
Bass anglers are putting some good numbers of bass on the boat. Combination of pre and post spawning bass have been reported with anglers hooking up from 9- 30 ft. deep. Top water bite is getting there with a few reports. The go to has been Senko's, Hula Grubs, Oxblood Robo Worms. Brian Gunder hammered this nice bass trolling a crankbait in Bear Cove, his boat ended up with 15 Bass and 12 Crappie to finish off a great day on the lake with Grandpa and brother.
CRAPPIE
The sunfish continues to be caught and are giving anglers some fun times on the water. Also some nice Bluegill have been landed. By far the most popular bait has been using live medium shiners and crappie jigs.
TURKEY
Carson Wiebe of Vallecito was hunting with his proud dad on a private ranch here in Angels Camp on April 21 where he called in a nice gobbler with an impressive beard.
