13 pound trout from Chabot highlights big fish list

The highlight of this week’s big fish report is a 13.75 pound trout caught at Lake Chabot by Mark Radonyselsky of Oakland, who was trolling a Rapala by the dam. As big as that trout was, it is a shadow of the 22.6 pound lake record.

 


Lake Chabot also produced a big bass. Employee Mike Bangler used a swim bait to catch-and-release an 8.5 pound largemouth.

 

There were other notable catches from Bay Area lakes.

 

At San Pablo Reservoir, Saifin Saechao caught a 10.69 pound rainbow from the Pines … Lou Saechao of Richmond caught a 10.32 pound trout the next day from the Pines … James Stoker of San Rafael trolled a Rapala for an 8.9 pound trout … Bianca Silk of Burlingame used Power Bait to catch a 5.7 pound rainbow.

 

The striper bite has been productive at Del Valle. Randy Wharton of Pleasanton hooked the largest bass last week, a 20.4 pounder caught with anchovies near the dam … Gary Elizarrey of Hayward caught a pair of stripers totaling 26.3 pounds, also using anchovies near the dam … Chris Nadler of Sunnyvale landed a 12 pound catfish using – you guessed it – anchovies near the dam.

 

Big fish of the week at Los Vaqueros was caught by Nol Hernandez of Oakland, who landed a 10.5 pound trout in South Cove.

 

At Shadow Cliffs, Mike McIntyre landed a 29-inch rainbow trolling a Rapala.


Further south in San Luis Obispo County at Santa Margarita Lake, Ken Hemer used a wake bait to catch-and-release a 9.5 pound largemouth bass.

 

Lunker trout were plentiful last week in Mono County.

 

Steve Matire caught a 4.5 pound cutthroat from June Lake trolling an olive matuka.

 


There was good action on Convict Lake. Chelsea Walsh caught a 7.12 pound rainbow using a nightcrawler along the South Shore … Jim Johnson caught an 8 pound rainbow and fishing partner Tony Hartvigsen caught a 6 pounder while fishing with nightcrawlers at the inlet … Ruben Galarza of Fontana landed the biggest fish of the week, an 8.3 pounder caught with a pink Mice Tail from Windy Point … Harley Wallace of San Diego caught a 7.9 pound rainbow and a 5-pound plus trout using nightcrawlers near the inlet.

 

Twin Lakes near Bridgeport turned back on. Tony Frater caught an 11 pound brown from Lower twin and Jack Sjogern nailed a 10.1 pound brown trolling a J11 Rapala 40 feet deep in Lower Twin … Randy Van Duyn from Lakewood caught the largest rainbow, a 6.8 pound beauty … Patrick Moore caught a 5.12 pound rainbow from the point on Lower Twin.

 

Little Virginia Lake kicked out a big trout to Mikey Franco, who reeled in a 9.11 pound rainbow.

 

Twin Lakes in the Mammoth Lakes Basin produced its biggest fish so far this season. Tommy Yin of Los Angeles caught a 7.8 pound trout with Power Eggs near the waterfall at Twin Lakes and Scott Flanagan of Studio City hooked a 6.2 pound trout throwing a Z-spoon from his float tube in Twin Lakes ... Just up the road, George Johnson of Los Angeles caught a 6.8 pound trout on Lake Mary with chunky cheese garlic Gulp!.
